Long Pole tutorials part 1 & 2

Sifu Edgar Zimmermann explains and demonstrates some basics of the 6 ½ Point Long Pole (Luk Dim Boon Kwun) of the Wing Chun/ Wing Tsun/ Weng Chun Great Grandmasters Tang Yik and Yip (Ip) Man – Enschede/ NL, 28/8/2015 – published on 6/9/2015.

There are different theories about the half (½) point.
In the Yip Man/ Leung Ting lineage of Wing Chun/ Wing Tsun it’s the half fence movement. Here the mark which is left from the tip of the pole is a half circle. While the other 6 basic movements leave a round or an oval mark.

Another theory is that the half point is a thrust. The ‘Biu’ is an attacking movement only, while the other movements can be used for attack and defense.

In the Tang Yik lineage the half point is called ‘Chin’. ‘Chin’ (a half circle) is the only movement, of the 7 basic movements, which is not an attack. This is the most logical explanation of the half point.

Basic exercises, the right way, for power development and thrusting with the long pole at the EWO Academy. Don’t use the long pole like a stick, use it like a battering ram when you thrust.
